We use only the best parts of the timber we
buy in our production.
After remaining for a pre-determined length of time in our
own drying chamber, the lumber is hand-sorted and glued into
tabletops. These tops are then allowed to remain in our
storehouse until the glue has hardened thoroughly. Then the tops
are milled on CNC (Computer Numeric Controlled) machines
according to sizes and profiles specified for each particular
model. The tables are then sanded before being treated. Finally,
they are assembled into finished products.
Despite the use of modern technology, our experienced furniture
makers take pride in maintaining the traditional skills used in
the manufacture of quality furniture. The texture and beauty of
wood’s natural qualities are preserved throughout the entire
process.
By drying the timber in our own drying chamber, we achieve the
same percentage of humidity as that in a normal Danish home
during the winter. This process optimizes the quality of the
wood used in our tables. |
Cellulose in wood is able to absorb and give off moisture
depending on its surroundings. When it is dry, cellulose gives
off moisture, and the wood will contract. When the surroundings
are humid, the cellulose will absorb moisture, and the wood will
expand.
Therefore, beech expands in the summer when the indoor humidity
is high and contracts again in the winter when the indoor
humidity is low. For example, a beech table measuring 85 X 135
cm can expand 15 mm in width if the surrounding humidity
increases from 40% to 60%! On top of that, the tabletop can warp
a bit because of the angle of the fibers in the wood.
However, this is by no means a defect in your table. On the
contrary, it adds to its charm and is proof that solid tabletops
are manufactured of living materials.
